This recruitment will be used to fill three permanent full time positions. These positions will be located in either Salem, Coos Bay, Pendleton, or the Bend/Redmond area. The Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) is a progressive business regulatory state agency dedicated to the mission of protecting and serving Oregon's consumers and workers while supporting a positive business climate. The department administers state laws and rules governing workers' compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies and building codes. The department has consumer protection and education programs, offices, and ombudsmen to help consumers, injured workers, and businesses. These positions are with the Building Codes Division (BCD). BCD adopts and enforces the statewide building code relating to the construction, reconstruction, alteration and repair of buildings and other structures and the installation of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical devices and equipment. These positions are represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: What you will do The successful candidate will enforce the Statewide Building Code and adopted specialty codes and standards through inspection of all types of buildings; communicate code requirements to the public, contractors, and local officials; and investigate cases of non-compliance and report appropriately. QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED & REQUESTED SKILLS: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS What we're looking for Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC); AND possess the following: Oregon A-Level Structural Inspector Certification AND Oregon One and Two Family Inspector Certification AND Oregon One and Two Family Mechanical Inspector Certification AND Oregon A-Level Mechanical Inspector Certification. OR International Code Council (ICC) Commercial and Residential Structural Inspector Certification AND ICC Commercial and Residential Mechanical Inspector Certification. NOTE: Candidates must either have the Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) or obtain within one month of hire. The OIC covers state laws and rules related to inspectors in the state of Oregon. Those who do not possess it, if hired, will be provided the materials and on-the-job training and preparation for this test. REQUESTED SKILLS Experience performing structural and mechanical inspections in a manner which promotes customer service while ensuring minimum construction standards are met Thorough understanding of the technical requirements of the structural, mechanical, energy and residential codes and familiarity with fire sprinkler and alarm standards Demonstrated experience approaching construction inspections with flexibility and working with customers through cooperative efforts in solving problems that arise Experience explaining procedures/technical requirements in a tactful, clear and concise manner to non-technical people Demonstrates effective team participation by showing a willingness to assist and support others Preference may be given to candidates that: Have additional inspector certifications in plumbing and/or electrical Have plans examiner certifications in commercial structural, mechanical and /or Fire plans examiner Are registered as an architect, certified as a professional engineer, or have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in architecture or engineering ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: HOW TO APPLY To apply for these positions, click visit our Jobs page or the URL https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/oregon/jobs/2202656/updated-structural-mechanical-inspector-multiple-positions-in-multiple-locatio Be sure to answer all supplemental questions completely. Requirements of a satisfactory driving record: A driver having a satisfactory driving record is defined as a driver who has not been convicted or forfeited bail for any of the following offenses and infractions: A major traffic offense in the last 24 months (examples include reckless driving, driving under the influence of intoxicants, failing to perform the duties of a driver, criminal driving while suspended or revoked, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and others), A felony revocation of driving privileges, or felony or misdemeanor conviction resulting in driver license suspension within the last 24 months, Three or more Class B traffic violations in the last 12 months, A careless driving conviction in the last 12 months, A Class A moving violation in the last 12 months (Class A is the most serious level of violation, e.g. going 30 miles over the speed limit). CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK Employment will be contingent upon the passing of a fingerprint-based criminal background check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically disqualify an individual from being considered for employment. SPECIAL INFORMATION Walks through, climbs over, and crawls under structures; involves occasional lifting and exertion for short periods; may include long periods of walking or standing Involves exposure to various weather conditions with potentially hazardous job sites Encounters situations involving antagonism, anxiety, frustration and deadlines Travels daily by motor vehicle to make inspections within assigned geographic area in various weather conditions. Must also travel outside geographic area to attend meetings and training workshops or provide inspection coverage as needed.
