The role:

We are recruiting for a traffic data analyst to support our Transportation Systems Monitoring Unit. This position is responsible for quality checking, analyzing, computing and summarizing traffic count data from the Statewide Traffic Monitoring Program. A day in the life:

Access traffic data from roadside equipment such as automatic traffic recorders or access traffic recorder via the automated data extraction programs.
Quality check data and spot anomalies in large datasets.
Coordinate with field technicians, troubleshoot automatic/access traffic recorder sites remotely to verify traffic volume and working order of automatic/access traffic recorders.
Record and investigate traffic disruptions such as construction or traffic crashes.
Develop and prepare monthly traffic trends for distribution to internal and external stakeholders.
Research and evaluate new traffic counting products and software.
Answer customer requests for traffic data.
Work is 90% using a computer in an office environment with occasional field work.
This position may require lifting up to 50 lbs. and climbing ladders - some bending, stooping and lifting may be required.

What we need:

Three and one-half years (42 months) of sub-professional engineering experience.

OR

An associate's degree in engineering technology from a community college or technical school of engineering and two years of experience directly related to engineering.

OR


An equivalent combination of education and experience (such as a bachelor's degree in engineering plus six months' engineering experience).

Note: If you are currently a transportation maintenance specialist 2 (TMS2) or have been one in the past, in addition to your completed application, please attach section three of your TMS2 position description to receive full credit for your related work. If your experience includes work in multiple maintenance disciplines (e.g. highway, sign, bridge, striping or landscape) please attach section three of the position description for each of the relevant disciplines.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

Experience extracting, analyzing and manipulating data using databases Excel, SQL or Python.
Ability to spot trends and anomalies and present them to stakeholders.
Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Experience effectively troubleshooting field equipment and or learning telecommunication systems.
Excellent time management skills and work tasks with limited guidance.
