The role:

Join our team and bring your financial expertise to ODOT as a payroll analyst. In this role you will provide consultation regarding pay, benefits, taxes and other payroll related information to managers and employees in the agency. In addition, you will play a key role in interpreting, documenting and recording payroll policies, practices and procedures. Apply today!

A day in the life:

* Interpret federal and state laws, rules, policies and procedures, union contracts, benefits and provide information, advice and direction to a variety of internal and external customers.

* Provide assistance on payroll related issues with a high level of discretion and confidentiality.

* Explain insurance options to new hires and to current employees during the open enrollment period.

* Respond to inquiries from all employees as they relate to applicable collective bargaining agreements, personnel rules, laws and regulations of state government regarding the compensation of pay on overtime, shift differentials, deductions, benefits, withholdings, prorating holidays and various other pay related issues.

* Audit and input employee insurance forms into PEBB benefits system which is a web based system maintained by the Public Employees Benefit Board.

* Analyze and audit payroll exception reports for errors or discrepancies.

* Process employee garnishments, wage withholdings and other adjustments to employee paychecks.

* Process requests for handwritten checks for payment of wages related to employee terminations, adjustments/corrections, new hire, insurance premium adjustments, pay advances etc.

* Provide training and technical assistance to timekeepers as needed. In addition, provide training to management staff for items such as fair labor standards act, family medical leave act and Oregon family act.

* Work is performed in a general office environment and may require occasional travel and could require overtime to meet payroll deadlines.

What we need:

Two years of experience in analyzing, calculating, recording, and maintaining routine financial information and must include accounting, data, or payroll processing.


At least 94 quarter (63 semester) credit hours or associates degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational- technical school that includes 12 quarter (9 semester) hours in accounting, business, or finance.


A Certified Payroll Professional's (CPP) certificate.


One year of experience analyzing, calculating, recording, and maintaining routine financial information and must include accounting, data, or payroll processing AND

At least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 8 quarter (6 semester) hours in accounting, business, or finance.


One year of experience analyzing, calculating, recording, and maintaining routine financial information and must include accounting, data, or payroll processing AND

Payroll certification from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school.
