ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Lumber Yard Associate is also responsible for keeping the
yards clean and stocking inventory
- Safely, accurately and efficiently load customer vehicles with
orders of building materials
- Ensure that appropriate paperwork is completed as per company
policy
- Inspects stock and returned items to ensure salable quality
- Puts stock away in correct location and nicely
- Participates with inventory preparation and post procedures
- Reads and follows instructions on pick tickets
-Opens and closes warehouse and yard when necessary
-Seeks to learn products and the applications and attends product
knowledge meetings
- Ability to read a measuring tape and carries one at all times
- Understands product terminology and grading
- Keeps forklift clean
- Maintain yard cleanliness during course of work
- Adhere to company procedures, policies and protocols as set forth
in the Employees Handbook
- Wears high visibility, safety gear, and proper uniform
- Performs daily lift inspections
- Always looks behind/honks horn when backing/rounding blind
corners
- Safely operates equipment
- Promptly report all accidents/incidents and damaged products
- Perform daily safety audit of forklift and promptly report any
malfunctioning equipment
- Keep aisles and exits clear
- Attaches red safety flag to over-length product
- Participates on safety committee if needed
- Understands weight, height, and length limits to inform customer
of being able to safely handle or transport material
- Consistently follows safety protocols
- Quickly greets and assists all customers
- Reviews and completes hold harmless form with customers
- Shares product knowledge with customers
- Pulls orders and stages for will calls
- Assists with material returns
- Participates in team meetings and discussions
- Assist other team members with their work when appropriate
- Communicates with all coworkers and uses those relationships to
solve problems
- Cross-trains for driving, counter sales, receiving, and load
building as needed
- Responds quickly to radio
- Regularly checks stock in computer system and reports low
inventory when needed
- As time allows and when needed, load and off-load delivery trucks
both by hand and with a forklift
- Demonstrate sound judgment in dealing with sensitive business
matters with internal and external customers of all types
- Must maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all information
related to company finances and records, particularly, cost of
goods purchased and sold
- Demonstrate positive interactions with the public, and positive
interpersonal relations in dealing with fellow employees,
supervisors, and other department employees, so that productivity
and positive employee relations are maximized
- Support and contribute to effective safety and risk management
efforts by adhering to established policies and procedures,
maintaining a safe environment, promoting accident prevention, and
identifying and reporting potential liabilities
Requirements
2-3 Professional References
Education/Training
High School or GED equivalent.
Experience
Formal retail experience preferred.
Physical Demands
Standing, walking, lifting (up to 70 lbs) and climbing
