Your Role With Us:
Serves as the primary contact for the Trauma Registry when
interacting with customers (related to database contacts) and is
the liaison to the Trauma Program Manager regarding trauma registry
operations. Responsible for clinical data registry activities
including case finding, abstracting and coding of clinical data in
accordance with State, Federal, the Joint Commission (TJC),
American College of Surgeons and other Registry guidelines and
requirements. Assists with, or responsible for the coordination of
registry and accreditation program activities such as submission of
data to various entities (NTDB, ATAB, OTR, etc.). Provides support
and leadership for registry activities related to Oregon Health
Authority and American College of Surgeons. This may include
patient care studies, report preparation and distribution as well
as other special duties as needed or required. Works directly with
the Medical Staff, Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Coordinator to
assist in program functions as needed.
+ Abstracts and codes clinical data from medical records in
compliance with regulatory programs using program data dictionaries
such as ICD-10, Abbreviated Injury Severity (AIS) Guidelines, and
Injury Severity Scoring (ISS) Guidelines. Maintains an abstracting
volume to meet reporting deadlines of Salem Hospital, the Oregon
Health Authority and other governing agencies.
+ Performs case finding and evaluates exclusion and inclusion
criteria for case submissions on a daily basis.
+ Establishes systems working with other hospital departments
and clinics to retrieve and review clinical data for

Program Manager, compiles, collates and distributes monthly,
quarterly and yearly reports upon request. Reviews reports prior to
distribution for accuracy and completeness of presentation.
+ Provides feedback along with the Trauma Program Manager to EMS
agencies, upon request, with defined information of each trauma
+ Is responsible for the timely and accurate export of clinical
data for state, federal or other regulatory and accreditation
programs. This includes but is not limited to: Oregon Trauma
Registry (OTR) and the National Trauma Data Base (NTDB).
+ Coordinates related program activities as necessary for
accreditation, performance improvement and service line support
+ Assists the Trauma Program Manager with coordinating,
developing, maintaining, and organizing the trauma registry section
of Trauma Services and Trauma Acute Care Surgery (TRACS). Serves as
a liaison for operational issues between the trauma registry,
Trauma Program Manager and the Trauma Medical Director. Assists
with staff training and maintenance of policies and procedures.
Assists with providing feedback and leadership with meeting and
maintaining the requirements for OTR and NTDB as directed by the
Oregon Health Authority.
+ Maintains ongoing knowledge base regarding changes in
abstracting and accreditation standards as it pertains to the
trauma registry. Demonstrates working knowledge and provides
guidance to the trauma registry team in the operation of the
abstraction process assuring compliance standards are consistently
+ Bachelor's degree preferred.
+ Certification as a Registered Health Information Technologist
(RHIT) or registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
+ Must attend or have previously attended two courses within 12
months of being hired: (1) the American Trauma Society's Trauma
Registrar Course or equivalent provided by a state trauma program;
and (2) the Association of the Advancement of Automotive Medicine's
Injury Scaling Course or an equivalent local course.
+ Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) preferred and
required after three (3) years registry employment.
+ Detail oriented and advanced computer skills required.
+ Typing: minimum of 60 words per minute
+ Knowledge programs such as Word, Excel.
+ Good working knowledge of the English language, spelling, and
