Delivering Benefits to a Multicultural Public " Resource Assistant Program The Northwest Youth Corps (NYC) in partnership with the United States Forest Service (USFS) will be advertising a Youth and Community Engagement Specialist Resource Assistant (RA). This is a 14 month full-time work experience from approximately late-July 2018 to late-September 2019. Created in 1984, and modeled after the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s, NYC is a non-profit job training and experiential education program for youth and young adults to learn and work in the field of natural resource management. NYC will recruit and hire the selected RA candidate providing personnel and Human Resources HR needs during the placement. www.nwyouthcorps.org Position: Youth and Community Engagement Specialist Target start date: July 30, 2018 Duration: 14 months Status: Full time Duty Location: U.S. Forest Service Pacific Northwest Regional Office, Portland, Oregon Staff Area: Office of Communications and Community Engagement. The Office of Communications and Community Engagement coordinates: media relations, Congressional affairs, youth engagement, conservation education, public involvement, partnerships, volunteer and service programs, internal communications, employee engagement, brand management, graphic design, printing and audio-visuals for the Region Overview The U.S. Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region seeks a Resource Assistant to work in the Office of Communications and Community Engagement in Portland, Oregon. The U.S. Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region manages 24.75 million acres across 16 National Forests, 59 District Offices, a National Scenic Area, and a National Grassland across Oregon and Washington. Within the region, there are more than 2,400 developed recreation sites, over 24,000 miles of trails, 51 Wild and Scenic Rivers, and two national monuments. Through culturally relevant partnerships, engagement, and communication, the U.S. Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region builds connections with rural and urban communities to help sustain the health, diversity and productivity of these lands to meet the needs of present and future generations. Position Description Through a partnership with Northwest Youth Corps, the selected applicant will support the U.S. Forest Service Pacific Northwest Regional Office in the management of youth and community engagement projects and in conducting culturally relevant and responsive programming. These efforts will focus on expanding diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in youth and community engagement programs; creating contemporary, multicultural environmental education content for the Regions 17 administrative units; planning, coordinating, and delivering youth and community engagement events in the Portland Metro Area; and aiding in the coordination of volunteer opportunities. Position responsibilities will include: Creating culturally relevant and responsive environmental education materials, resources, and training. Planning, coordinating, and delivering youth and community engagement events in urban and remote natural space. Delivering clear and engaging public presentations on environmental education topics to people of all backgrounds and ages, especially youth. Reviewing existing youth and community engagement projects and programs to make recommendations that improve diversity, equity, and inclusion. Developing and strengthening partnerships with organizations and groups that work with historically underserved and underrepresented communities. Assisting with the coordination of volunteers and volunteer opportunities. Managing multiple tasks and projects, often with limited supervision. Preference for bilingual or multilingual applicants, especially native speakers of Spanish or Russian. Willingness to work some evenings and weekends. Requirements Valid state drivers license and ability to operate a motor vehicle by the time of employment. Government vehicles are available for work-related travel but Resource Assistants are responsible for travel to and from duty station. Program Benefits NYC will provide RA a total stipend of $37,310 divided across a 14 month term along with health care coverage, workers compensation, and FICA/Medicare. RA will have special Federal Government hiring authority upon completion of their 960 hours of service.
