A specialized opportunity exists for experienced stepdown Registered Nurses in Cornelius, NC, serving adult patients in a progressive Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This 12-bed unit is part of a newly opening facility scheduled to begin operations in February 2026, initially at 50% capacity with plans for growth. The environment is non-teaching, without trauma, chest pain, or stroke designations, focusing on medical-based PCU care. Key Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, CIWA, dialysis, and insulin drips. Execute general nursing functions including IV starts, wound care (including wound vacs and drains), central line maintenance, NG tube insertion, administration of drips (Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, insulin), and lab draws. Continuously monitor patient cardiac rhythms and manage PCA and kangaroo pumps. Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, anesthesiologists, and respiratory therapists available onsite. Operate EPIC EMR system and Alaris IV pumps; manage med dispensing with Omnicell. Float within regional facilities as needed, maintaining a 1:4 patient ratio and adhering to professional standards. Qualifications/Desired Experience: Active RN license. Minimum 2 years of PCU stepdown nursing experience. For first-time travelers, 5 years of PCU experience required. Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications. Proficient in EPIC electronic medical system. Comfortable titrating critical drips and performing phlebotomy. Willing to learn ventilator care and manage Precedex drips onsite. Schedule/Hours: 12-hour shifts, either 0700-1900 or 1900-0700. Weekend rotation: 6 shifts every 6 weeks.
