transporting patients, specimens, blood products, equipment, and
supplies Description: The Safe Patient Mobilization Technician
assists direct patient care providers using safe patient
mobilization techniques. This includes performing
equipment-assisted lifts, transfers, turns, and repositioning of
patients in a clinical environment. The technician strives to
promote a safe patient handling environment for both patients and
care providers. The technician coaches clinical staff on the use of
lift techniques and transfer equipment as needed. Regular rounds
are made, three times per shift, to collaborate with clinical staff
to assess patient needs before each task. This assessment includes
determining the type of lift to be performed, the condition of the
patient, and the state of the patient’s physical disability.
Patient transfers and repositioning are performed using appropriate
lifting and transfer equipment. The technician identifies the
availability of necessary equipment and supplies required for
transfers or repositioning. In urgent situations, a response is
needed in less than 15 minutes, collaborating with clinical staff
to assess patient needs prior to lifting or transferring. Requests
for lifts or transfers on-site are responded to promptly,
collaborating with clinical staff on scheduling when possible.
Transportation of patients is conducted using a wheelchair,
stretcher, hospital bed, and morgue cart to various locations
within the facility. Patients are transferred to and from
stretchers, hospital beds, exam tables, and wheelchairs using
transportation-assist devices. Transporting medical equipment,
mail, labs, blood products, and supplies to and from various
locations is also part of the role. The technician operates
elevators for patient and equipment movement. Cleaning and
disinfecting transportation medical equipment are essential
