intervention evaluations in a 24/7 community crisis center and work
as a team to meet and assess needs of individuals. The work is
varied with 24/7 supervision support. Training is provided. We work
collaboratively with our local emergency departments to provide
crisis consultations and assessments as needed. -

The position is part time (60%, 24 hours/week) and fully
benefitted. -Hours are Friday and Saturday from 7 pm to 7:30 am. We

Mental Health Specialist 1: -$25.02 - $33.51 -hr
Mental Health Specialist 2: -$30.33 - $40.69 -hr
MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST 1 DESCRIPTION:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Plans and carries out recreational, social and skills training
activities; performs case management and counseling functions with
individuals and their families; facilitates counseling and/or
skills training groups; performs related duties as required.
-Primary responsibility of this class is case management and
counseling, without responsibility for developing and implementing
specific programs in the community.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under supervision of a supervisor who assigns work,
establishes goals, and reviews the results obtained for overall
effectiveness.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of others is not a responsibility of positions in this
classification
MENTAL HEALTH SPECIALIST -2 DESCRIPTION:GENERAL STATEMENT OF
DUTIES
Provides independent functional assessment and treatment of
individuals; provides crisis intervention services; assists in the
development and implementation of behavioral health services to the
community, including treatment groups; performs related duties as
required. Primary responsibility of this class is to provide crisis
intervention, case management, and treatment services, including
intensive services, to individuals and their families and/or to
develop and implement specific services in the community.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of a supervisor who assigns work,
establishes goals, and reviews the results obtained for overall
effectiveness.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Primary supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of
positions in this classification. May act as a Clinical Supervisor
designee when needed. -May assist in the supervision of practicum
students and/or volunteers. Typical Duties - Duties include, but
are not limited to the following Counseling to Crisis Clients
- Provide counseling by telephone or in-person to individuals in
crisis and/or their families or concerned others. -
- Intervene with both children and adults presenting with
concerns covering the full range of personal needs and include
thoughts/plans or violence toward self or others and major
psychiatric illness. Due to the wide spectrum of presenting
problems, it is necessary to have a comprehensive knowledge of
psychopathology and be able to draw upon a wide range of
therapeutic strategies in counseling. - This work is done at
different locations each day (local emergency departments and PCC)
therefore driving is required.Assessment of Mental Status
- Perform independent assessment of mental status, diagnosis,
level of functioning, dangerousness, and specific needs for
services. -Screen individual for psychiatric
hospitalizationPlanning Development
- Develop plans with client/family to address immediate needs and
plans to obtain services. -If a client is unwilling to seek
services, make decisions regarding involuntary commitment based on
dangerousness and ability to care for self.Community Coordination
- Maintain current knowledge of, and contact with, community
agencies in order to make referrals appropriately. -See that
clients gain access to the services they need, and do follow-up
work as needed, to make certain that the client's needs are being
met.Advocacy for Client's Rights
- Provide advocacy for client rights, ethical consideration,
needs for service and least restrictive care-intervention.Requests
for information
- Respond to requests for information regarding clients not
currently in the CSS, requiring a thorough knowledge of laws
governing the release of confidential information. Attend monthly
PCC team meeting.Other job duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements for the Position Mental Health Specialist 1 Minimum
Qualifications:
- Possession of a graduate degree in Psychology, Social Work,
Recreational Therapy, Music Therapy, Art Therapy or a behavioral
science field, or possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and
licensed by the State of Oregon, or possession of a bachelor's
degree in Occupational Therapy and licensed by the State of Oregon;
OR -second year graduate students -waivered -as -QMHP's -by the
Oregon Health Authority.Additional requirement for Mental Health
Specialist 2 level:
- In addition to the educational requirements above, the Mental
Health Specialist 2 must have at least one year of full-time,
post-graduate degree experience in the behavioral health
field.SPECIAL -REQUIREMENTS
- Must be either 1) licensed by the Oregon Board of Licensed
Professional Counselors, 2) licensed by the Oregon Board of
Licensed Social Workers or 3) credentialed or registered through
the Mental Health and Addiction Counseling Board of Oregon (MHACBO)
as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) within the first
30 days of employment. Applicants may be required to pass a
practical knowledge and skills assessment as part of the interview
process.
- This position may be subject to the following: -Must not be
excluded from participation in the federal health care programs
(Medicaid, Medicare and other federally funded programs that
provide health benefits); AND must not be excluded from
participating in federal procurement (Federal Acquisition
Regulation) and non-procurement activities (Executive Order No.
12549).
- Must possess a current driver's license in the applicant's
state of residence and an acceptable driving history. -Marion
County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified

- Typical Work Schedule: Friday - Saturday 8:00 pm -6:30 a.m.,
with flexibility depending upon the needs of the department and

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Operates a motor vehicle; sees using depth perception; sits;
stands; moves about the work area; climbs 1 floor of stairs;
operates a keyboard; lifts, pushes, pulls and moves carts, and
carries up to 10 lbs.; speaks with a clear and audible voice; reads
a 12 pt. font; hears a normal speech level; may work in areas
exposed to heat, cold, humidity, dust or household cleaning
