---The VP, Cloud Platform Engineering is responsible for oversight
of cloud platforms and execution of the cloud strategy for Marriott
International. The VP, Cloud & Platform Engineering will partner
with Marriott disciplines on cloud migration planning and
execution. This leader is accountable for several Enterprise
Systems, Data Center and "Colo" Hosting Facilities and Private
Cloud and Public Cloud product teams. This role will oversee and
streamline services across cloud hosting, middleware platforms,
database services, business intelligence, tools and automation of
Infrastructure as Code. This leader will also own the strategy to
exit the Marriott data centers and colos enabling Marriott's vision
to become a 100% cloud based company.
At enterprise scale, this leader will ensure solutions that will
support widescale adoption of cloud solutions while transforming
the infrastructure teams into a platform / product teams. This
person will be accountable for building and supporting the product
management discipline, nextGen cloud architecture, engineering and
operations for the full stack of technologies in the Cloud. This
strategic role is accountable for technical governance across
infrastructure products, TechDebt remediation and the financials
supporting an efficient and effective Cloud footprint for Marriott
International. The VP is expected to be a thought leader in
emerging cloud, platform and automation technologies who leads the
team by leveraging a broad and deep mix of both technical and
leadership skills.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related
technical field.
12+ years of Information Technology senior leadership experience
with 4+ years at a Sr. Director level or higher
12+ years of infrastructure and data center delivery experience
with:
Direct management of complex budgets in excess of $20M direct and
indirect costs
Direct management of cross functional, sourced, or matrixed
teams
Candidate must have had at least 10 years in a hands-on mix of
technical engineering, architecture and/or development roles.
10+ years leading teams that deliver and support highly available,
customer facing systems and services.
5+ years leading large teams delivering full stack platform support
across Data Centers, Private and Public Cloud.
While this role is a leadership position - the company strongly
prefers candidates with previous hands on distributed
infrastructure engineering experience.
Direct management of a cross functional, sourced, or matrixed teams
working with outsourced suppliers.
ITIL v3 or v4 Certified
Preferred:
Experience designing and running a wide range of open source tools
and distribution engines.
Demonstrated success leading large-scale
initiatives/transformations.
Deep understanding of infrastructure automation, instrumentation
and full stack technologies.
ITIL v3 or v4 Enterprise experience.
Strong negotiating, influencing and problem resolution skills.
Proven ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a
high-pressure environment.
Knowledge of business environment, service requirements and
hospitality culture.
Experience developing complex global distributed software solutions
residing within multiple country borders.
Demonstrated ability to assess customer/client needs and develop
creative solutions.
Solid understanding of DevSecOps philosophy and scaled agile
methodologies

Managing Day-To-Day Relationships with Teams
Manages the Cloud team in partnership with IT teams, business
partners and providers
Works with service providers, is accountable for their outcomes and
validates that the service levels meet business needs
Supports the IT organization through the project portfolio, demand
intake processes and provides input into the broader IT
strategy
Supports and follows defined IT Governance decision rights,
standards and practices
Provides input to business/discipline and continent IT budgets
Creates a compelling vision, clear direction and strategy for the
team.
Technology Management
Provide technical thought leadership towards solving problems for
the team
Responsible for setting cloud technology standards using modern
cloud native architecture, serverless and container services
Drives the evolution of partner relationships with all cloud
services providers - ensures that cloud technology roadmaps align
with the market
Sets automation standards and methods across the entire
infrastructure stack - ensures that productivity achieved from the
automation of services results in decreased costs and expenses
related to ITO services.
Experience with security tools and concepts - ensures perpetual
compliance with all security guidelines and policies.
Generates enthusiasm and understanding of emerging cloud platform
and automation technologies.
Ensures technical processes are in place and executed to drive
collaboration and alignment within the team and with the broader IT
organization.
Establishes cost transparency through concepts of cloud FinOps
Leads the design and execution of a System-wide cloud platform L3
operations strategy.
Accountable for leading the creation of and providing ongoing
oversight for the governance for Cloud operations to prevent
outages and mitigate potential risk of losses for Marriot
International
Oversees team responsible for quick incident response, building
self healing systems, ensuring alignment to ITSM Enterprise
standards, including SLAs, reduction in tech debt, and the ongoing
maintenance and operational readiness for establishing and
transitioning to Site Reliability Engineering disciplines.
Builds and establish an Operations arm accountable for solution
Engineering, Operations Monitoring and L1/L2 playbooks used within
the command center area for 24/7 support
Lead Team & Developing Associates
