The Director of Professional and Outpatient Facility Coding will provide overall leadership for a unit or department by developing goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; supervising, coordinating, and evaluating the activities. Primary functional areas that report to the role include Professional Services Coding and Outpatient Facility Coding. Accountable for enhancing existing practices within this area. Reports to the AVP of the department.Department Summary:The Department of Finance - Revenue Cycle Services is responsible for the management of the revenue cycle for the Vanderbilt Medical Group. This consists of credentialing and enrolling providers, coding and charge capture of professional revenue, claims processing, collections, and customer service.     • Define the vision, goals, and objectives for VUMC within a fully integrated outpatient facility and professional coding department.
    • Lead standardization, development, and implementation of innovative coding solutions to improve coding quality, productivity, enhance compliance, and end-user experience
    • Lead strategic planning and annual business planning for Coding Quality Assurance, Training & Education, and Business Support to align with the overall coding operations and Revenue Management strategic goals and objectives
    • Provide overall strategic, financial, and operational leadership for coding operations and develop and monitor the budget and operational plan to achieve organizational goals and objectives
    • Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor coding quality, accuracy, and completeness performance.
    • Provide information and reports to Revenue Cycle leadership to facilitate strategic decision-making and planning
    • Lead development and implementation of policies and procedures, workflow standards, and baselines to ensure a consistent framework for a multi-region, multi-faceted health system
    • Oversee all aspects of the development and implementation of compliance, training and education, quality assurance programs, policies and procedures, and leading practices across coding operations
    • Ensure all areas of daily coding operations are updated and compliant with all applicable regulatory changes and requirements, as well as with all applicable VUMC policies and procedures in a timely and effective manner
    • Establish and actively maintain relationships with customers (internal and external) to ensure a service-oriented, high-quality operational and support environment for all coding systems and departments
    • Oversee the planning, implementation, and execution of service level agreements, budgets, and workflow processes that achieve strategic objections/business goals while meeting quality and compliance requirements
    • Responsible for gathering input to inform Coding Operations, supporting alignment and consensus across stakeholder groups.
    • Communicates and partners with Compliance, Risk Adjustment, and Revenue Management leadership to disseminate decisions and status through appropriate channels.
    • Establish and develop working relationships with internal VUMC stakeholders requiring strong/effective collaboration to achieve Coding Operations strategic and business goals
    • Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive work environment with clear strategies, plans, and objectives for: business goal attainment, ongoing coding improvement, excellence in performance, and quality aligned with national standardsShort and Long Term Accountabilities:
      • Act as a change agent through the establishment and implementation of 3M 360 Professional Coding system
      • Work collaboratively with VUMC Revenue Cycle to ensure the organization maintains compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements impacting Outpatient facility and Professional Coding operations
      • Ability to engage, influence, and obtain buy-in from key internal/external stakeholders to drive organizational change through enterprise-wide standardization and adoption of new processes, tools, and technology
      • Ensure the organization maintains a high level of integrity through in-depth understanding and adoption of regulatory standards applicable to Facility and Professional Services coding operations
      • Ensure appropriate internal controls are in place and adhered to in all areas of responsibility
      • Direct ongoing programs for staff development, including hiring and training for leadership positions and directing the training and development of all staff in the department.
      • Ensure strict patient and organizational confidentiality
      • Develop and manage departmental budgets for staffing, operations, and capital resourcesCore Accountabilities:
