Description/Qualifications Your Role With Us: The Director of Inclusion, Equity &--Diversity researches, recommends and implements diversity and inclusion programs for Salem Health to ensure cultural and other diversity interests are identified, valued and promoted to all stakeholders, including employees, patients and their families, volunteers and general community members. This position serves as an internal subject matter expert on diversity and inclusion issues and is a resource to help facilitate problem solving around such issues with the goal of ensuring a culture that is respectful and inclusive of all types of diversity. Works with Community Relations to establish and maintain key community relationships that support diversity and inclusion and are representative of our minority populations. Core Functions:

  • Leads and serves as an advisor to leadership by keeping current on best practices in the field of Inclusion, Equity & Diversity. Collects and analyzes data to identify gaps and opportunities and recommends Inclusion, Equity & Diversity strategies and tactics to address gaps, ensuring a comprehensive approach. Develops and leads Inclusion, Equity & Diversity strategic plan and monitors progress against that plan according to established methods of measurement. Provides periodic reporting to Sr. leadership, government entities and the Board of Directors on progress.
  • Works closely with Community Relations to establish and maintain external relationships with key groups and individuals within the community to ensure understanding of underrepresented populations and build relationships with such. Manages community perception around Inclusion, Equity & Diversity.
  • Develops and conducts individual and group training/education aimed at changing organizational culture and biases. Ensures that the message of Inclusion, Equity & Diversity is comprehensive, going beyond culture and ethnicity, and includes gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion and life experiences. Remains knowledgeable about a wide variety of diverse groups and cultures and shares that knowledge with others, serving as a subject matter expert in such areas. Promotes a culture of Inclusion, Equity & Diversity.
  • Assists internal and external stakeholders in problem solving operational challenges related to Inclusion, Equity & Diversity and cultural competency by sharing and managing information and resources and actively collaborating to provide solutions. Leads implementation tactics to address issues outlined in Inclusion, Equity & Diversity strategy and plan.
  • Works with Sr. Leadership, external entities and the Board of Directors on effective approaches to identifying diverse talent and establishing an effective selection process that ensures equal opportunity and weeds out unintentional bias in the selection process. Provides individual coaching and consultation as needed. Participate in interview panels for key positions.
  • As a subject matter expert, works with Leaders to provide coaching on diversity/cultural competency/inclusion issues as an outcome to discrimination investigations. May participate in investigating discrimination complaints made by staff, patients or visitors, as directed in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Establishes and maintains support programs for specialized groups of diverse staff, placing special emphasis on welcoming and connecting new diverse members of the team to help ensure a sense of inclusion and encourage retention of staff. Leads and manages coordination of events celebrating Inclusion, Equity & Diversity.
  • Networks with other organizations, sharing and obtaining best practices around diversity and inclusion.
  • Establishes and maintains Diversity & Inclusion communications strategy including periodicals, educational materials, webpage etc. to ensure access to resources and information for internal/external consumption. Background/Expertise:
    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, International Studies, or closely related field.
    • Minimum of two years' professional level experience in Diversity, Inclusion & Equity (DEI) or Human Resources or closely related field. Previous healthcare experience is strongly preferred.
    • Prior experience in DEI workplace efforts as well as experience in facilitating or presenting workplace diversity topics, group training and/or curriculum development required.
    • Previous experience leading large projects and/or organizational change.
    • Must have exceptional communication skills for working with various audiences and facilitating dialogue around sensitive subjects.
    • Exceptional data analysis skills.
    • Effective Microsoft Office skills.
    • Ability to assess, design and edit training materials.
    • Effective group facilitation skills and presentation skills required.
    • Demonstrated reflection, inquiry and analysis skills.
    • Demonstrated respect, tolerance, empathy and humility in working with diverse groups of people.
    • Awareness of cultural diversity and biases of self and others; ability to listen and promote effective dialogue around such issues.
    • Effective prioritization and coordination skills. Ability to get things done and drive initiatives in a way that is collaborative and effective.
