Job Summary
The City of Salem is seeking an Assistant City Engineer (Engineer 5) candidate in the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department.

What you will do:
The Assistant City Engineer Position is an advanced professional and administrative position reporting directly to the City Engineer. The position performs a full range of civil engineering project and program development, managing a team of professional and technical staff that delivers public infrastructure projects through planning, budgeting, design, and construction.

Additional information on job responsibilities:
The Assistant City Engineer is responsible for developing and monitoring program budgets, providing supervision and leadership to project managers, implementing, and managing policies and procedures, proactively identifying, and resolving project challenges and obstacles, overseeing, and participating in consultant selection, and preparing reports and recommendations.

    What are the minimum qualifications?
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or a related field.
    • Ten or more years of experience in a related field; or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the class.
    • Professional Civil Engineer License within the State of Oregon required with 12 months of hire.
    • Must pass the pre-employment background check.
    • Must have an Oregon Drivers license and meet the City of Salem's driving standards.About us:

      The Engineering Division is responsible for delivering the 5-Year Capital Improvement Plan and is currently working on a wide variety of capital improvement projects including: water treatment and distribution facilities, wastewater collection and treatment facilities, pump stations, reservoirs, drainage facilities, parks, airport facilities, streets, bridges, traffic signals, and urban development projects. The recent Community Improvement Bond includes capital improvement projects for streets, bridges, parks, building renovations, and new building construction, adding $300 million to the current $280 million Capital Improvement Plan and providing at least 10 years of funded infrastructure to be delivered by our team.
