What you will do:
This position is critical to our Compliance team. The Compliance
Officer I requires from start to finish case management with the
goal of voluntary compliance with city codes. You will learn to
conduct field inspections, investigate complaints of Salem Revised
Code violations; research and interpret information using a variety
of databases; initiate and following-up through formal enforcement
actions, and document your findings for use in possible

mobile office rather than sitting behind a desk, devoting much of
your day speaking to people, creating operating relationships, and
spend a good part of your day outside.
Additional information on job responsibilities:
- Approach and introduce yourself to citizens at their homes or
- Educate individuals on the City of Salem Revised Codes
- Write and issue complex enforcement notices
- Issue infraction and/or criminal citations
- Represent your case to the Municipal Court or Hearings
- Document in writing and photographs all activities to support

- Position schedule is Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week. May be
assigned 5 8's or 4 10's hours shifts. What are the minimum

obtain CJIS clearance and must be maintained throughout
- Must have an Oregon Driver's license and meet the City of
Salem's driving standards.
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and one (1) year
experience working with the public in area that relates to
enforcement or a closely related field, or regulatory agency such
as zoning, building, land use, housing inspections, nuisance
abatement, or regulation compliance, or any combination of
experience and training that demonstrate possession of the
knowledge, skill, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform
the essential job functions.
- Ability to obtain a Vehicle Appraiser Certificate from the
Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
